Monte Cassino Apartments
Overview
With names that draw inspiration from our treasured Benedictine Tradition and that strike a special chord with our students who have experienced our semester in Rome, the “new apartments” – now collectively named The Cloisters – began housing students during the 2013/2014 school year.
Monte Cassino, the westernmost building, attributes its name to the town in which St. Benedict completed his Rule and lived out his final 14 years. Not only did The Rule of St. Benedict greatly influence the spread of monasticism, but it also intimately contributed to the formation of the mission and identity of the University of Mary.
Monte Cassino offers comfortable apartment living for juniors, seniors, and graduate students. It has 11 two-bedroom units and one one-bedroom unit. In addition, students will enjoy gathering in Chesterton’s, which is adjacent to The Cloisters.

Layout
Our apartments include shared spaces of a living room, full kitchen, and two full bathrooms along with two double-occupancy bedrooms. Residents are responsible for all regular cleaning of all apartment spaces throughout their housing contract.

I was born and raised in Bismarck, never once giving thought to attending the University of Mary. After my conversion to Catholicism at the end of high school, the Lord beckoned me “up the hill,” where my heart was set aflame for a life in service to Him. Now, my husband, our son, and I have the privilege of sharing our lives with the vibrant and joyful Mary community. In my role as the Residence Director of the Apartments, I am honored to serve our upperclassmen in programming aimed at developing integrated and flourishing young men and women.
